Orthopedic memory foam beds are the gold standard for senior dogs. As dogs age, joints wear and arthritis becomes common — particularly in hips, elbows, and knees. A 3–4" memory foam layer distributes body weight to relieve pressure points, reducing pain and improving sleep quality. Look for waterproof liners (easy to clean) and low entry height for dogs with mobility issues.

Measure your dog from nose to tail while stretched out, then add 8–12 inches. This gives enough room to stretch without wasting space. For dogs that curl up, you can size down slightly — but always err larger for comfort. Use our size guide above as a starting point and adjust for your dog's specific sleeping style.

Place the bed in a spot your dog already gravitates toward. Add a worn item of your clothing to make it smell familiar. Use treats or lure your dog onto the bed and reward them for staying. Most dogs accept a new bed within 3–7 days. Avoid forcing or placing the dog on the bed — positive reinforcement works far better.

Wash covers every 1–2 weeks, or immediately after any accidents. Most PawHaven bed covers are machine washable on a gentle cycle with pet-safe detergent. Air dry covers to preserve waterproof coatings. The foam insert itself rarely needs washing — spot-clean with diluted pet-safe cleaner and allow to air dry completely before covering.
